Mother’s Day Foraging Walk
Gather the family and celebrate Mother Nature and all she gives with a walk in one of London’s natural areas, the Carolinian Food Forest, to harvest wild foods and learn the art of wild crafting. Explore the beautiful acre of land in the Thames River valley to pick seasonal edibles, and talk about preparation and cooking techniques. The process of plant identification and best practices while foraging will be emphasized.
Be lead by the expertise of the original designer of the food forest, Jessica Robertson of Wild Craft Permaculture.
What is a Food Forest?
A food forest mimics the pattern and structure of a natural forest but the plants are deliberately selected to provide food, medicine and other things for us. There are also plants included that are there to support the whole, or the system, through the release of nitrogen and other nutrients into the soil, or by performing natural pest control. Most species perform more than one role.
What is Foraging?
Foraging is the act of searching, identifying and collecting food resources in the wild.
