As an environment and sustainability Centre, the Westminster Ponds Centre acknowledges that our work on lands that are the traditional territories of the Attawandaron, Anishinaabeg, Haudenosaunee, and Lunaapeewak peoples—peoples and Nations who have longstanding relationships to the land, water, and region of southwestern Ontario. We also recognize the First Nations communities in this geographical region who continue to be stewards and protectors of the land: Chippewas of the Thames First Nation, Oneida Nation of the Thames and Munsee-Delaware Nation. Ontario is covered by 46 treaties and other agreements, such as land purchases by the Crown signed between 1781 and 1930. Treaties are the legally binding agreements that set out the rights, responsibilities and relationships of First Nations and the federal and provincial governments.
